announced their intention to issue an Airworthiness Directive Note on this subject.
MATERIAL REQUIRED: One 1-3416 Auxiliary Fuel Valve Warning Placard.
REFERENCE: Champion and Chief Service Manuals, page 22.
GENERAL:
A. What It Is:
The 1-3416 placard reads as follows: “VALVE MUST BE CLOSED EXCEPT IN LEVEL FLIGHT.
ENGINE WILL NOT OPERATE FROM AUX. TANK, THEREFORE IF AUX. FUEL IS TO BE
USED, MAIN TANK MUST BE AT LEAST ½ FULL WHEN DRAINING IS STARTED TO INSURE
CONTINUOUS ENGINE OPERATION.”
B. Why Necessary:
CAA has stated that it is considered advisable to install this placard in the interests of safety. If the
placard instructions are not followed the following may happen:
a. If the valve is left on when airplane is in climbing or 3-point attitude, fuel can flow from main tank
and overflow the auxiliary tank.
b. If valve is turned on before main tank is ½ emptied, the main tank can be overflowed.
