SERVICE LETTER NO. 10
September 2, 1948
TO: ALL AERONCA DISTRIBUTORS AND DEALERS
SUBJECT: Factory approved repair of No. 2-705 control stick socket and No. 1-2383 control stick connecting tube
on Models 7AC, 7BCM, 7CCM, and 7DC.
REFERENCE: Control system drawing in Champion Service Manual.
Due to normal service, the subject parts may become worn. To correct for this condition, the following repairs may
be made.
In all cases the largest hole permissible in the individual piece is noted and in all cases the desirable procedure is to
install the next diameter clevis bolt or bushing without using the maximum size permitted. This will allow margin
for repeat repairs later on.
TOLERANCES
No. 2-705 Control Stick Socket
The 1-2383 tube connecting hole may be reamed to a maximum diameter of ⅜” (.375) provided that the distance
from the edge of the hole to the outside edge of the socket casting comes to not less than .18”.
No. 1-2383 Control Stick Connecting Tube
Holes in this tube may be reamed to a maximum of ⅜” (.375).
ASSEMBLY
There are many combinations permissible.
(1) Installing assembly by using the appropriate size clevis bolt and shear nut only. In this case, the hole
diameter of both the 2-705 socket and 1-2383 tube must be identical.
(2) An SAE-1025 steel bushing may be installed in either the socket or the tube or both. When figuring wall
thickness of bushing, consideration must be given that the resulting inside diameters must be the same
in both the socket and tube.
CAUTION:
1. The minimum clevis bolt diameter permitted to be used in both the 2-705 socket and 1-2383 tube is ¼”
(AN24-1).
2. The Clevis bolts must be exactly 1 ⁄32” in length, and have a grip of ⁄16” (-16).

3. Only AN320 shear nuts can be used.
4. Washers must not be used under bolt head or nut.
5. Tighten the AN320 shear nut finger tight only. Then, safety with cotter pin.
